Living in Taiwan Sean McCormack until recently and never thought about Hiking in the mountain. But when Sean and his friend Ross Tweedy learned that one on the mountain there is a dog with injured paws, they immediately went to 12-hour hike, to help the animal.
Someone posted a photo of the dog sitting in "house" from rusty barrels, in social networks and told that the young dog lives there, near a private house, but it almost does not care and the dog’s wounded paws. The photo was emaciated dog, pagasa under her paws.
McCormack strongly touched this photo. He was the one who had the exactly the right things for the house and the dog. The dog’s name was sandy and her paws were injured when she fell into a poacher’s trap. One paw was broken in half, the other suffered a bit less.
McCormack and his friend Ross are the co-owners of the company’s Taiwan Adventures, love animals and not for the first time rescue dogs, including victims of illegal traps and snares.
At first the men thought to drive away the dogs on the transport, but it turned out that way. It turned out that not less than 6 hours will have to spend to climb this mountain, and then the same to descend.
"It was a difficult journey, especially for such beginners in this business like Sean"- says Ross Tweedy, – "He told me he’d never done anything like this, but we went there".
It was the beginning of March 2018. The ascent was even more difficult than Sean had imagined. Several times he was about to give up and go home, and Ross was thinking about the option to tell the dog to the inhabitants of a nearby village, maybe it’s been someone’s local and he’s looking for it and would be unhappy if she were removed .
Finally they reached the top of the mountain and the dog. He was afraid of strangers, but at the same time carefully wagged his tail.
"When we saw the dog, we realized that we had to help her and we did not care. He approached us and put his head on my lap, he looked like he was asking us to hug him" says McCormack.
Sandy wounded looked painful and was inflamed. According to McCormack, if the dog was on the mountain, she would have died from infection. One of the paws was able to heal, but the second was so badly wounded that I could see the bone.
"He was in pain, but when we banded his paw, he felt a little easier, it was noticeable".
The dog I had as quickly as possible to deliver to the vet, but had to return the same way, and it is another six hours. Sandy put it in the backpack and he sat there and looked around.
"All the way back, he behaved just like an angel. Not whining, not barking, not crying. Did not make a sound".
When Sandy was finally able to take to the vet, the doctor had to amputate the affected portions of both front paws. Now the wounds are healing well sandy and when he’s fully recovered, he promised to make special dentures.
"Now he is well and he started to play with the other dogs in the clinic. He is such a nice happy dog".
When the story of the sandy was published in social networks, one of the residents of Taiwan was moved by his plight and decided to take his dog to his forever, regardless of his disability.
"We are very happy to have sandy all so well developed. It was worth all the effort that we had spent on the path"- says McCormack.
